Thriller ...

Welcome to the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in the Philippines. A large prison, holding over 1,500 inmates, all of them clad in the regulation orange jumpsuits and put through a rigorous, compulsory exercise regime. So far, so jaily.
The difference being that this prison's exercise regime involves replicating Michael Jackson's Thriller.
'Inmates at the CPDRC are required to go through a workout regimen. While the goal is to keep the body fit in order to keep the mind fit, such may not actually happen if it is not done in a manner deemed pleasurable. Music, being the language of the soul, is added to that regimen,' wrote Byron F. Garcia, a security consultant to the Cebu provincial government, last year.
The choreography is slick, the co-ordination tight, and one of the male prisoners gets to play the girl who accompanied Jackson in the video. What more could you want from your prison experience?

White Stripes play shortest show ever ...

Duo's gig is just one second long!

The White Stripes wrapped up their quirky Canadian tour yesterday (July 16) with a single note in St. John's.
Following shows on boats, buses, bridges and classrooms, Jack and Meg White took to the stage on George Street in St. John's and played a single note - reportedly a C-sharp - before announcing they have "now officially played in every province and territory in Canada" and leaving the stage.
Hundreds of fans showed up for the last minute event, but were pre-warned that the show would be just one-note long.
Later that evening, the band played a full-length set at Mile One Stadium in the city, the final show on their Canadian tour proper.

(Well, I saw them once a couple of years ago (I think) and thought they were very good. But one note? That's just pathetic. Just so that they can claim to have played in every Canadian territory.)

Title: Rubber duck
Year: 2007
Location: river the Loire, France
Dimensions: 26 x 20 x 32 meters
Materials: inflatable, rubber coated PVC, pontoon and generator
Production: le Lieu Unique and the Biennial Estuaire

Loire Estuary 2007," is an outdoor, contemporary-art exhibition now taking place in France that features the works by 30 artists from around the world. All of the work is being installed along a 40-mile stretch at the mouth of the Loire River, from Saint-Nazaire to Nantes.

Our favorite piece is Florentijn Hofman's massive rubber duckie

A yellow spot on the horizon slowly approaches the coast. People have gatherd and watch in amazement as a giant yellow Rubber Duck approaches. The spectators are greeted by the duck, which slowly nods its head. The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn't discriminate people and doesn't have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relief mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!

16 yrs old two days ago, I feel old ...

The baby reaching for the dangling buck on the iconic album cover “Nevermind: from Nirvana will turn 16 on July 9th. Little Spencer Elden was photographed swimming in a pool and the dollar on the fishing line was added later. Elden’s family were friends of the photographer hired by Nirvana to shoot the cover, and were paid about $200 for their son’s photograph.

In a September 2006 interview in NME, Elden said that he was proud to be a part of such a great album, and that the band’s songs don’t get old.
“Nevermind is fifteen years old now, but you still hear the singles being played on the radio and it just doesn’t sound dated. Most bands around today can’t even get near to what Nirvana did on that album, and I’ll always be happy to be a part of it.”

aliens ?? ...

This may look like the latest aliens to land on our planet have been drinking and driving, but these bizarre patterns, discovered in a corn field in Holland, have a much more mundane explanation.
They were made by a drug user who was attempting to escape from police in his father's car. The man had been using cocaine.
Four police cars were damaged in a desperate attempt to prevent the crazed driver from reaching public roads, but they could not save the crop from irrepairable damage.
In the end, the man was captured when he crashed the car into a ditch.
